Also known as the dandelion, is a flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. Dandelions are known for their distinct yellow followers and toothed leaves. Many consider them weeds, but they have a long history of medicinal and culinary use.

The Taraxacum officinale is used as a diuretic, choleretic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cholagogue, tonic, antirheumatic, bitter, alterative, and depurative.


When used medicinally, the dandelion can help with liver health, assist with urine production, promote digestion, and help with inflammation.


    Other benefits of the dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) include its high level of antioxidant beta-carotene that protects against cell damage and oxidative stress. Additional compounds in dandelions may decrease triglyceride and cholesterol levels. Dandelions also have diuretic properties that can help with water retention and edemaalong with a mild laxative effect that aids constipation.
