Homeopathy and Eczema

Homeopathy and Eczema
By Dr. Peter Klapper Ph.D.

Eczema is a dermatitis causing inflammation of the skin. Those who suffer from eczema are keenly aware that conventional medicine struggles to deal with this often highly uncomfortable illness, and treatments are symptom based rather than curative.

Fortunately, there is evidence from both clinical trials and patient outcome studies demonstrating homeopathy provides positive results in the treatment of eczema.  A recent study of 118 eczema patients published in Complementary Therapies in Medicine journal showed homeopathy was as effective as standard conventional treatments in the short-term and more effective than them in the longer term.

Additionally, patients themselves have reported improvements in their condition after homeopathic eczema treatment. A six-year study by Bristol Homeopathic Hospital found 82 per cent of eczema patients under 16 said they felt “better” or “much better.”  Similar results have been reported at the other homeopathic hospitals.

Further, A skin clinic here in the states had positive findings in treating a total of 29 patients with seborrheic dermatitis (facial eczema with dandruff). Approximately half the patients were randomly allocated to receive homeopathic medicine and the others received dummy medicine (placebo); they were not told which treatment group they were in. After a period of 10-week treatments, the group that received the homeopathic medicine reported more improvement in skin symptoms than the group that received placebo.

Often there is no rhyme or reason to an outbreak, eczema can be caused by anything from a change in temperature to simply stress.
